The N2 ascends steeply behind Gordons Bay up to the 403 metre high Sir Lowrys Pass. The pass over the Hottentots Holland Mountains was opened in 1838 and it made the Overberg region accessible, enabling people to settle there. From the pass one has a stunning view of the entire of False Bay.
