Kleinfontein

Kleinfontein Farm - Accommodation in Wellington, Western Cape is situated in the picturesque Bovlei Valley of the Cape Winelands

Description

The thatched farm house was built in 1830 by the descendants of French Hugenots and was extended at the beginning of the last century. Tim and Caroline Holdcroft have painstakingly restored the original Cape Dutch character with poplar beams and ceilings made from reeds harvested on the farm.

Kleinfontein is a working farm cultivating vines, guavas and fresh vegetables irrigated by water from the crystal clear spring which gives the farm its name "Small Spring". The exclusive guest accommodation comprises two luxurious suites for 4 people at most: additional beds may be provided for children if required. Each suite has a spacious sitting room and bedroom with en suite bathroom. One suite has a traditional reed ceiling while the second is under open thatch. Air conditioning and/or ceiling fans ensure a good nights sleep between handmade cotton linen. The suites are delightfully furnished in traditional style and include tea and coffee making facilities, a well stocked bar fridge and satellite television. A sundowner on the verandah while watching the sun set against the majestic mountains will bring an end to a perfect day.

Kleinfontein is well placed for you to indulge in the scenic splendour and the wine and gourmet delights to be found on the wine routes of Wellington, Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. Stroll through some of these old towns with their wealth of historic buildings, museums, art galleries and quality crafts or take an exclusive archeological/ historical tour and find out more

Kleinfontein is a 'garagiste' winery located an hour out of Cape Town near Wellington and produces quality Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and a blend of the two cultivars and from 2009, a Rose. The first vintage was in 2003. The one hectare vineyard was planted in 1998, a small vineyard enabling close personal attention and in consequence high quality grapes. Kleinfontein uses a wine consultant(who consistently produces 4 star wines) to ensure quality in all respects and the total production is 350 to 450 cases x 12 bottles per year. As well as wine into South Africa exports are to Ireland, UK, Germany, Botswana, Kenya and Tanzania.

Caroline was born in Kenya, where with her family, she was involved in exclusive safaris and lodges within the tourism industry. Tim, an engineer by profession, left England in 1965 for 'the African adventure'.
