Built in 1806 and designed by famous French architect Louis Michel Thibault as the "Drostdy" of the district. "Drostdy" is the Dutch word for magistrate's court. Restored to its former splendour by De Oude Meester group in 1977, it plays host to many of the group's priceless antiques and paintings. The patio and garden are alive with the twittering of many wild birds from numerous feeders suspended from trees, are a real joy for the weary traveller looking for a light snack or refreshment!

The foyer, with it's doors open, has a perfect view down the street of another national monument, Reinet House, one of 220 national monuments in the oldest town in the Eastern Cape and the fourth oldest in South Africa, Graaff-Reinet. The yellowwood floors, Persian Carpets, and antique furniture give you an idea of what lies ahead. Next to the swimming pool area is Stretch's Court, which is a cobblestone street, lined with colourful shutters and bougainvillea. The accommodation is situated here with safe parking close to the rooms. The imposing slave bell reminds of a time when these cottages were emancipated slave quarters. Each and every of the 51 rooms varies in size, shape, and decor. All are en-suite, equipped with air-conditioning and all modern day amenities to ensure a luxurious stay. Each room also houses one or more priceless antique from the Rembrandt collection in pristine condition. A Victorian addition to the accommodation belonged to the family of the Graaff-Reinet born and bred renowned banker G.T. Ferreira.
