Recharge and explore the beautiful mountain scenery on horseback, go on a guided Bushman’s rock art hike, hike into the world heritage site, birding, fauna and flora tours or explore the legendary Sani’s Pass – best 4x4 experience in SA and have a Maluti beer at the highest pub in Africa! For the avid birdwatcher over 300 bird species are found in the area including the Black stork, Bald ibis, Bearded and Cape vultures, Black eagle, Jackal buzzard, Black harrier, Orange breasted Rockjumper, Drakensberg Siskin, the Blue, Crowned and Wattled Crane’s and Denham’s bustard. End the day with a romantic evening savoring our chef's gourmet creations and recommended wines. Round the evening of with a lesson in astronomy learning more about our stars and planets topped with a glass of port or gluwine. The legendary Alan Paton’s Express (“Cry for me beloved country”) offers scheduled train trips reliving the past and an experience of traveling back in time in one of the only trains of its kind still operational. Saturday afternoons the big screen LCD 42” TV gets switched on (if there is a big match) and we celebrate afterwards with a traditional “potjie” or “braaivleis” dinner. Be prepared to be overwhelmed with wonder! Due to nature of establishment & surroundings, only children over 15yrs are allowed.

Directions

In the Southern Drakensberg very close to the famous Sani?s Pass. Take Main High way between Durban and Johannesburg. Take the Howick / Underburg turn off. Follow the road signs clearly marked Underburg. Travel for plus minus 96km from turn off. Look out after Bulwer plus minus 22.5km for the first. Coleford Road turn-off. Take the turn off to the left and follow the dirt road (well maintained) for plus minus 7.35km. AmaZian is on the right-hand before the Umzimkulu River.
