We do hope we’ll soon be welcoming you and yours in person. We’ve nestled in the heart of the Wild Coast for a long time now, and could tell you so much about what your family will discover here. There are the expected things, of course – waterside bungalows that feel like home; our rich array of freshly prepared food, and more activities than you’ll find time for.
 
But then there are the more personal things: Sharing coffee and rusks as you watch the morning mist brushing the river’s surface. Falling asleep with an old paperback on your chest and salt in your hair. Seeing a fish eagle swoop low over the estuary, or hearing the cattle call from a distant hillside. Taking a shower open to the atmosphere of the Wild Coast.
Most importantly, there are those timeless moments with family that allow you to re-connect, refresh and later, remember. Talking about these things might make you want to visit. To experience them yourself will make you want to stay.

When you feel more alive, you also feel more hungry! So bring a healthy appetite.
 
Kick off the day with an unhurried River Breakfast as you loosely plan out another day filled with the sights and sounds of the hospitable Wild Coast. Later, sample our menu, which offers versatile meat dishes, fish so fresh it melts in your mouth and cracklingly good salads and veggies.

Oh, and feel free to make requests. Like everything else, our menu’s flexible and our chefs are always happy to try and meet your needs.

Directions

HIT THE ROAD If you’re driving to the Wild Coast from the Cape, get yourselves onto the N2 North, which runs directly through Umtata (Mthatha). In central Umtata (Mthatha), look out for the intersection with a sign for the Port St Johns road (R61); it’s hard to miss. Then you’ll have a beautiful 90km drive through lush valleys and gentle hills, with some spectacular views along the way. The road is spacious and tarred all the way to our (also clearly marked) turn-off. From Kwazulu-Natal, take the Port Edward / Bizana / Flagstaff / Lusikisiki (R61) route and make your way to us past herds of cattle and friendly locals. Getting to Umngazi is not the cross-Africa odyssey you might imagine - even though once you’re here, you will feel miles away from the rest of the world.
